Water Resource Engineer/Scientist/Technologist (In-Training)
You will provide technical support to field operations on a variety of mining and hydroelectric projects in Canada and beyond, and will be primarily focussed on hydrometric and climate monitoring. You will also undertake data processing and analysis, as well as associated reporting, supporting Swiftwater engineers and other professionals contracted with, to and by Swiftwater. You will be required to plan, prepare, accompany, and ultimately lead field visits to monitoring stations and networks on various projects. Remote work will be required, and may include physically demanding tasks, working in swiftwater environments, working at heights, and travelling to, around, and from project sites by helicopter, boat, all-terrain vehicle, truck/car, and/or airplane.
Fieldwork may include, but is not limited to:
- Hydrometric monitoring
- Climate and snow course surveying
- Water quality sampling
- Air quality sampling
- Groundwater sampling
- Associated data management and routine field visit reporting, as required
- Field summaries and reporting
- Safety documentation and training
- Drone operations
The following are considered the most critical requirements of this position
- Undergraduate or Post-Graduate Degree in environmental science, engineering, or related fields
- Is registered, or able to be registered as an Engineer-in-Training, Geoscientist-in-Training, or Applied Science Technologist-in-Training, in BC
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, in particular MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
- Comfortable:
- working in and around water
- working at height (up to 30 feet)
- working in remote wilderness areas
- Willing to travel
- Able to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted
- Willing to work up to 12 hours during field visits
- Willing to undertake the following training and certifications:
- First Aid certification
- Swiftwater Rescue certification
- Fall Protection certification
- Ice Rescue
- Vocation training, as required
The following are considered optional but are preferred requirements of this position.
- Field experience in hydrometric and/or climate monitoring
- Construction supervision
- Have experience with technical software, including:
- HEC-RAS
- HydroCAD
- AutoCAD
- Civil3D
- GoldSim
- Arc-GIS
